Musée du Louvre
Paris
is well-known for its museums, especially for the world's
largest museum of art – Le Louvre. |

Louvre
made us a strong impression, especially in combination with Jardin
des Tuileries, which located right next to the museum and saved
the lay-out of the days of “King the Sun” Luis XIV.
In this nice and quiet park with marble sculpture, ponds and parterres
we rested after astonishing visit to the Louvre.
Entrance
to the museum is organized through the glass pyramid in the middle
of the XVII century palace yard. Construction of the pyramid is
unique and reminds construction of airplanes or helicopters. Through
this mark of modern times we entered to the kingdom of old age art.
By the way, on the basement we found the walls and moats of the
XII century(!!!) castle of Phillip II August which gave birth
to the king’s palace – Le Louvre
The 1st work of art that started the collection of the biggest
museum in the world was the most famous one – “Jokond”
or “Mona Lisa” by Leonardo da Vinci. That was the triumphal
end of our 2 hour tour in the museum. And we started it with rooms
of Greek and Roman sculpture. There we saw two “musts”
of Louvre museum – Venus of Milos (the ideal of female
beauty in Greece) and Nikka from Samofrakia (the wings’ goddess
of Victory). Well, what can we say – we did not even
saw a half of the treasures of the Louvre!

The
next day brought us even more discoveries when we went to Musée
Orsay. This one of the most interesting museums of art of “fin
de ciecle” is situated in the building of the former railway
station erected right on the embankment of Seine in light and comfortable
style of Art Nouveau. It still have some signs of the railway station
like gorgeous bronze clock, glass arches on iron frames, silhouette
of huge clock on the facade. French
government very clever saved the building settling it down for the
collection of paintings, sculpture, furniture, applied art starting
from 1848 till 1914. So museum is famous for the wonderful works
of art made by Impressionists and Postimpressionists (Monet, Renoir,
Gauguin, Mane and Van Gough). It is very interesting to be in and
it is so cool to see all of that paintings and items that you studied
for 5 years in University!!!
There is another big museum of contemporary art (vanguard, cubism,
surrealism…) in Paris – Centre Pompidu, which is also
an exhibition hall, scientific center, library, theater, cinema, creative
studio for children. But we saw it only from outside as we did not
have strength to go inside. We were so overwhelmed with impressions
we got in two mentioned above museums that just decided to save it
for the next trip. Now we are sure we will come back!
