Lloret de Mar
Lloret de Mar is the city where we stayed in. It is one of the biggest cities on the coast and as all of them is
filled with hotels.
We lived in a small hotel on the second street from the coast. We were
lucky to get the room on the sixth (last) floor. It was one of three rooms
with balconies and the only room in the hotel from where it was possible
to see the sea!
Actually the city is deprived of any outstanding sights, but there is
huge boundless sea and rocks across the coast with narrow curved paths.
This castle is not a museum — it is private building. There is a path around it, leading along the rocks
to other city. We enjoed walking there in pauses between laying on the beach.
It is so nice just to sit on the warm stones of the rocks and to enjoy the view of the sea!
There are several cafes right on the rocks. They are usually located in the most picturesque places.
All the cafes are opened till late at night. And view from them at night is also beautiful, especially at full moon
night (we saw it ourselves!).
There are sveral types of boats (one of them — on the picture above) that make regular trips along the
coast to closest cities. Some of those boats have glass bottom, so you can enjoy viewing the seabed.
There is a square near the sea, covered with tiles, and some of them represent prints of the palms of famous race-drivers:
Every evening we used to walk along the coast. Coast line looks wonderfull with shining lights on the embankment
and huge glowing cruise vessles on the horizon.
Outstanding fireworks took place once in the evening of the "International Day of Tourists". That was a
raining day, so we watched the show under umbrella. Before this everybody was offered (for free) a special drink.
As Dasha concluded after trying it, that was mostly rum and coca-cola. It was hot and has coffee beans, raisins and
some spices in it.
Nature of Spain is completely different from the nature of the place we live. Palm trees and cactuses are everywhere.
The tree, growing from the center of cactus on the picture above is not a tree actually. This is a piece of the cactus
itself — the seeds grow on it.
We noticed that it is very popular to make plates with names of the streets of painted tiles. Most of them look very
attractive:
After we saw all the sights in Lloret de Mar and around we decided to go to the St. Clotilde Gardens we’ve
heard so much about. But twice we started twice we couldn’t find it. It was quite a walk from the place we stayed
in. So the third and the last chance was undertaken on one of the last days we had in Spain. And the miracle happened
to us — we finally found the way there and it was open! We came to this unachievable park when it was about
5pm and the sun was setting. It colored all our visit in warm golden tint and made the atmosphere so romantic. That
was the sun of our trip that was setting giving us the best moments to enjoy before we leave.
The Gardens are such a beautiful place — full of harmony and peace. They are located on the top of a natural
rock that separates two small bays with golden sand beaches. Enchanting blue see surrounding this place gives sparkling
reflections to the verdure of the gardens, laid out in the Italian Renaissance style. It reminds of a Greek amphitheater
with white marble sculptures and busts of ancient emperors and goddess where the main stage is water of Mediterranean.
It’s a place of clear spirit, quietness and great beauty. Here it’s easy to think of a perfect harmony
of the Creation and to write poems. You want to stay here longer, just to sit with a wise book, to enjoy the view
and to think of eternal things. There are some places in these Gardens that are hidden with the high green walls of
trimmed hedges that seem to be specially created for the man to stay along with the beauty of nature. The Green hall
organized with clipped cypresses and marble sculptures in verdure arches, charming mermaids, ponds and fountains make
this place even more remarkable. This is the real poem of harmonious combination nature and works of man’s hands
that created one of the most peaceful and exalted places that we’ve visited.
